Bioinformatics … where computer science meets life science
This workshop targets WACE Human Biological Science and Biological Sciences curriculum and Australian Curriculum Year 10 and proposed Year 12 Biology
Projects like the mapping of the human genome have unlocked vast amounts of molecular data. Computer science has provided tools to work with such huge amounts of information leading to countless discoveries in all areas of life science.
So how do we teach this cutting-edge biology to high school students?
Spend a day immersed in this new area. The program includes a general introduction followed by two workshops where teachers work through examples of bioinformatics tasks for students, including local (Perth) data for the H1N1 influenza virus.
