The SPICE program offers all Western Australian government secondary school science teachers at least two opportunities per year to enhance their skills and their understanding of advancements in science and technology by participating in purpose-designed workshops. The SPICE team travels around the state to provide these workshops in schools using SPICE curriculum teaching resources to provide a context for professional learning.
To facilitate worthwhile professional learning for this range of participants the program has a flexible two-tier design incorporating collaborative and inclusive learning strategies. Teachers are able to learn, apply knowledge and plan within school science departments or collaborate with colleagues from other schools through networks promoted by the SPICE program. Workshops are also designed as a ‘hands-on’ exploration of resources that enhance the development of skills in using learning technologies.
Our SPICE Curriculum Consultants Bob Fitzpatrick, Jenny Gull & Bec McKinney run all in-school and regional professional learning workshops. Teachers are provided with a copy of resources (CD, DVD and printed materials) that are licensed for use by all Australian and New Zealand school teachers.
