SPICE initiatives

SPICE has developed innovative projects to enhance teaching and learning experiences for secondary school science students.

Biotechnology

The SPICE biotechnology program includes curriculum resources and events that address exciting new aspects of molecular biology.

SPIRIT (Spice-Physics-ICRAR Remote Internet Telescope)

Telescope dome

The SPIRIT initiative provides students the means to undertake astronomy projects and the opportunity to make genuinely important scientific contributions using robotic telescopes at The University of Western Australia. The program is fully supported by SPICE teacher PL and curriculum resources.

Travelling scientist program

The travelling scientist program takes inspiring young UWA scientists (Ph.D. students) to regional secondary schools. They act as positive role models offering encouragement to school students to explore tertiary study in science and technology. Students interact with scientists working on real problems and issues. Travelling scientists benefit by developing their public speaking skills through the program.

Monitoring soil science project

Soil Science at UWA

This science education project seeks to establish innovative student-scientist partnerships through ongoing soil-based research. The project will introduce students to the concept of soil science, and the importance of soils in the environment and to the climate change debate.
